Women jokes not allowed at home – Rody

JOKES about women are not allowed at the Duterte residence.

President Duterte yesterday told the “Give Us This Day” program of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy that funny remarks or comments against women are prohibited in his home because his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, does not allow it.

“In the house, I cannot say jokes about women. My daughter Sara will be angry,” the President said during the interview.

Duterte made the statement amid criticisms that he has been getting following the recent passage of the “Bawal Bastos” law, which punishes catcalling, wolf-whistling, unwanted invitations, unwanted gestures, sexist slurs, groping, public masturbation or flashing, online sexual harassment, and unwanted advances in the workplace.

Gabriela party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas the other day said implementing the “Anti-Bastos” law will be a challenge for as long as Duterte is the country’s chief executive.

Brosas had said Duterte’s signing of the law “throws an ironic shade on himself, as he represents the single most brazen violator of the law’s intent with his staple macho-fascist remarks.”

Duterte had often been criticized for his remarks and actions against women, like cracking rape jokes, cat-calling women and making other misogynist remarks in public events. He had also once asked to kiss on the lips a married female overseas worker during a public gathering. The lady agreed.

He had also uttered misogynistic remarks, such as expressing regret that he did not get to rape an Australian missionary, encouraging soldiers to rape up to three women as spoils of martial law in Mindanao, and calling for female communist rebels to be shot in the vagina to render them useless in his eyes.

Duterte said there are other individuals who are worse than him. He named Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. who, he noted, had tweeted more controversial statements than him.

Duterte quoted one of Locsin’s allegedly controversial Tweets: “I will get a fork parang pala and ram it into your genitalia and I will burn it several times and pull it out.” – With Vince Nonato
