The processing of documents required to seek government medical assistance is now down to only one day from the previous seven days.

This was announced by Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Thursday as he led the opening of another Malasakit Center in Siquijor –the 35th one-stop shop where services are being provided by various government agencies instantly to those in need, particularly of medical assistance.

Go stressed that the establishment of Malasakit Centers throughout the country will complement the implementation of the Universal Health Care Act of 2019.

“Before, it takes one week to line up at the PCSO (Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office), PhilHealth (Philippine Health Insurance Corporation), DoH (Department of Health), DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development), now only one day and within one room where representatives of DoH, DSWD, PhilHealth and PCSO are there to serve,” Go said.

Go is elated over the continuing growth of Malasakit Centers around the country – a vision he started only last year when he was still the Special Assistant to the President (SAP).

Go, however, admitted there is still much things to do to provide better services to all Filipinos especially those in the far-flung areas.

“My promise has always been to go around each corner around the country, and hear the needs of the Filipinos,” said Go.

Go, however, admitted there is still much things to do to provide better services to all Filipinos especially those in the far-flung areas.

As a senator, he vowed to provide more to the people.

“There are still a lot of needed equipment for the hospital. If there’s money in the government, then we’ll use it to uplift the lives of our brothers and sisters. I will be a working senator and I am used to delivering service ‘ora mismo’,” Go vowed.

Since its first establishment in 2018 through the Office of the SAP, 34 Malasakit Centers have already helped and assisted thousands of Filipinos all over the country.

To complement the Universal Health Care Act of 2019 which was recently approved by President Rodrigo Duterte, Go is targeting to institutionalize Malasakit Centers by pushing a bill before the Senate.

In the bill filed on Tuesday entitled “Malasakit Centers Act of 2019”, he stated that “there shall be a Malasakit Center in each hospital being maintained by the Department of Health, local government units, Department of National Defense and state universities and colleges.”

The centers will serve as processing shops for all PhilHealth concerns regarding coverage, billing, health benefits packages, patient navigation and referral to the health care provider network, and medical assistance to cover out-of-pocket expenses of indigent and poor patients.
