In celebration of Pride Month, concerned groups have called for the passage of the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Equality Bill better known as the Anti-Discrimination Act in the 18th Congress.

According to the Save the Children group, every child has the right to a safe, healthy and discrimination-free childhood.

The group also called on the Department of Education to sustain their efforts in protecting the rights of LGBT persons in schools through the Child Protection Policy.

Inspite of President Duterte’s confusing statements on the support for the (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual) LGBTQIA community, an organizer said Pride March was scheduled yesterday in Marikina City hoping to promote the SOGIE Equality Bill in the next 18th Congress.

Meanwhile, Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro over the weekend signed an anti-discrimination ordinance that aims to provide equal opportunities for members of the LGBT community.

City Ordinance No. 065 or the “Anti-Discrimination Ordinance of Marikina City” seeks to give equal opportunities to all members.

Section 6 of the ordinance mandates the creation of an Anti-Discrimination Council. It will be composed of the City Mayor, and other eight key officials of the city government, three of which are representatives of the LGBTQIA+.
