Former Sen. Ferdinand (Bongbong) Marcos Jr. on Wednesday asked the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) to speed up the manual recount and revision of ballots in his protest involving the 2016 vice presidential election.

Supporters of Vice President Maria Leonor (Leni) Robredo, on the other hand, asked the PET to reconsider its ruling that only ballots which were shaded at least 50 percent should be considered as valid votes.

Robredo had earlier asked the PET, composed of all Supreme Court justices, to reconsider its ruling. The PET had asked Marcos and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to comment on the motion.

Revisors of the PET are now on their sixth week in the closed-door manual recount and revision of votes at the gymnasium of the SC-Court of Appeals along Padre Faura St. in Ermita. Manila.

Marcos met with his supporters gathered in front of the SC building since day one of the recount and revision.

“The recount is slow. I want to see how it can be improved and if we can do something to help speed up the process,” he then told journalists after checking with the PET the system for the recount.

He pointed out that his protest against Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo has been pending for the past two years. Robredo also filed her counter-protest and the two cases were consolidated by the PET.

“Two years is too long to keep the people waiting. What were the true results in the last elections? If there are anomalies and mistakes, who are responsible?” he said.

“We’re hoping to find ways to help the process to be finished ASAP,” he added.

Marcos did not discuss the merits of his protest nor the proceedings on the manual recount and revision of ballots because of the gag order issued by the PET on the parties to the protest and counter-protest.
