JAIL Senior Insp. Joey Doguiles of the Quezon City jail yesterday asked courts to speed up the resolution of cases to address the overcrowding of the jail facility.

“Merong mahahaba ‘yong kaso, umabot na po sa 10 to 15 years, matagal na po silang naglilitis,” Doguiles said in an interview, adding some detainees can’t afford to post bail.

He said the number of detainees at the QC jail has increased from 3,600 in May to 3,884 in August after President Duterte took office and called on law enforcers to intensify their efforts against drugs and criminality.

Doguiles said the jail facility can only accommodate 300 people. — Evan Orias
